Speaking of W00t…

I created a new character on WoW, on the Horde side, to check it out… I had just gotten in the world that a lvl 7 wanted to duel me, and when I refused he made a rude gesture and spat on me. Just one minute after I got there! I think people on the Horde side are tainted by their character, or that they’re already evil to begin with. And some people take themselves way too seriously.

I looked up the origin of w00t, and here it is:
“w00t” was originally an truncated expression common among players of Dungeons and Dragons tabletop role-playing game for “Wow, loot!” Thus the term passed into the net-culture where it thrived in video game communities and lost its original meaning and is used simply as a term of excitement.

  1. Woot is probably not from D&D (I’d know, since I played from 1980 through 1990 regularly). Per Wikipedia:
    W00t
Of uncertain origin; most likely from a 1993 dance catch-phrase “whoot, there it is!”,[1] but other theories exist, such as that it is a blend of wow and loot (as might be exclaimed during a role-playing game), an acronym for “we owned the other team”, a corruption of root (as might be exclaimed by a hacker on obtaining root access), or a derivative of Scots hoot.
